The social and demographic changes that have hit Italy in recent decades determine, even today, a profound process of transformation of the household, involving its structure and the relationships among persons who compose it. The Italian household is increasingly restricted and fragmented, with more couples unstable and more lone parents. The aging population, the growing marital instability, the increase in separations and divorces is associated with the consolidation of new household forms. The objective of this work is to study the changes taking place in Italy through a territorial reading of household models. The availability of exhaustive and territorially detailed data, specific aspects of the census, is used to represent geographically types of household and to carry out comparisons to highlight differences or a convergence of household models among the areas of the country.
