Neet generation: amount and features of a growing phenomenon

In Italy, at 9th October 2011, young people aged 15-29 not in education, employment or training are 2.068.292, 22,5% of usual residents in the same age group. The distribution by gender shows an higher percentage of women classified as Neet (54,0%) compared to men. Over half (56,6%) of young people who are Neet have usual residence in South (37,7%) and in the two greater Islands of Italy (18,9%), with the highest percentages observed in Campania (18,9%) and Sicilia (15,4%). The paper, based on 2011 population census data, provide information on the incidence of Neet at a very detailed territorial level (NUTS3 and LAU2) and on the main features of Neet such as: gender, age, citizenship, education, current activity status, household and family status.
