Abstract

The aim of this article is to review some recent developments on the Gini index of concentration for the study of survival data. An estimator of a restricted version of the Gini index from right-censored survival data and a related non-parametric test for differences in the heterogeneity of survival distributions have been introduced. This test allows for the comparison of survival distributions from the point of view of their shape. The Gini index has also been studied  within survival regression models to capture the relationship between concentration in survival times and life expectancy. In particular, a parametric family of  log-scale-location  survival models has been studied, which is able to describe the recent trends of longevity and concentration over time.
